New at the Zoo

Well, I know I should have waited, but I miss Cosmo so much that I went to Petsmart and played with hamsters for almost and hour.I actually left and went back!
I was feeling guilty that I was even looking. I ended up buying instead of adopting this time.
I will have pics up of "him" in a day or 2 after he settles in.
Just a baby and so cute. We can't seem to come up with a name yet.

Sad news from the Zoo

My beloved Cosmo was gently put to rest today by Dr. Cronister at Stony Run.
He became ill on Friday and then had a stroke on Saturday.
Even with vet intervention and my constant support his little body could not heal.
I am so sad and miss him so much, but know that I gave him the greatest gift so that he wouldn't have to suffer.
I know he was in incredible pain. He fought until the end.

I guess I will have another little hamster spirit running around the house now.
"See you again some day Cosmo, keep Aubrey company!
Love you."

LIFE

If you ever watched Planet Earth, narrated by Sigorney Weaver, on the Discovery channel then you know what it is like to be reminded of all the wonderful and extraordinary things occupying this planet.
Well, a new 11 week series called LIFE is going to blow your mind!!
I have been watching the trailer for this program for months now and have been kept on the edge of my seat. You know how emotional I am about our planet and the wonderful things inhabiting it that need our protection, so I cried every time I saw the commercial.
The images and artistry involved in this program looks to be phenomenal! From past experience with Planet Earth I know we will experience things we have never seen before and learn so much more about our planet.
It starts this Sunday and runs until mid April with a new look at our planet each Sunday. If you have High Def TV and programming you are in for a ride, to say the least.
Put your screen setting on VIVID & your Smooth motion effect and Real Cinema Mode on LOW (Only on HD TV's) and it will be like you are there!
Planet Earth is my all time favorite documentaries and I can watch it over and over and still be in awe.
LIFE is narrated by Oprah Winfrey and starts this Sunday at 8 with "Challenges of Life".
On the Discovery channel.

*~* *~*~* Happy Spring!!!! *~* *~*~*

I KNOW! I am 2 days early, but it was so nice out and Zinny was in a lovable mood...so I decided to tick her off!!
She actually loves to dress up.
It is bizarre. She knows treats are involved so she just goes with it.
I bribed her with her favorite flavor of Fruitable. Banana.
She makes a rather odd looking, munchkin from the Wizard of Oz like flower. Don't worry, I have bunny ears too.....! : )
I need to find some butterfly wings!! HA HA HA

You can see how green the grass is. All the rain we had and then all this beautiful sunshine has made everything start to bloom.
I can't believe winter is finally over. I swear it felt like I was living in a perpetual ice age.

A few more days until Spring!

Everyone was soaking up the rays of warm, spring sun today. I tried to catch a few in the act.
Maggie-poo our lab/golden mix is almost 10, but acts like she is 5 most days. (It's an ancient Chinese secret!)
Today was a lazy day in the sun for her. She prefers winter and loves snow, but also likes summer so she can swim in the creek and chase groundhogs.
None of my flowers have come up yet, but I see a few buds. I have also been seeing a few flocks of snow geese flying by. I would love to get pictures of them, but they are always so high in the sky. Honking.
The yard is full of birds. It is so noisy outside. I LOVE IT!
I have spotted a few migrating species that I would love to get pics of, but can mark off in my bird book.

Friday our Pygmy goat made it through another winter and a hard winter it was. He will be 12 on April 2nd. Good Friday. He has arthritis in his right shoulder, but is still sassy. Here he is hanging out in the sun with some of the chickens.

And of course Zinny. What would my day be like if I didn't have her in my face! Honestly, how can you resist?
You can see her undercoat starting to shed at her neck. I like to brush her every morning and put the undercoat in an old bird house where birds can use it for their nests.

Crazie is as Crazie does.....

Yes, I went to see this movie all by my lonesome today. There was no one else in the theater.
Actually 2 teenage boys came in right before it started and I made them sit with me. Not because I would be scared, after all, that is the point of going to a scary movie--to be scared.
No, because they were goofy and I knew if they didn't sit next to me they would misbehave and wreck the movie experience for me. They did laugh every time I jumped, but that's OK, I laughed when the little one screamed like a girl!! And they got my stupid Double Tap joke! (Zombieland)

So anyway, this flick was mildly predictable, but still fun and scary. The worst part is the scene that depicts the poster.
Yes, a crazy person with a pitchfork in a room full of people strapped to hospital beds. Very aware of their demise, well, some of them.....EW!!
Good story, but again, it's the military's fault. Come on, how long we riding that scooter?
The chicks were not armed at all and that bothered me a lot. That would be the first thing I would look for. And there was always some creepy crazie in the shadows, staring....YUCK. Gives me the willies.
Starring my new friend Timothy Olyphant. Speaking of my new friend, his show on FX premieres tomorrow night at 10. Please watch and LMK your thoughts. I can't wait.
Rated R for the very obvious.

Meet Cosmo & a Poppy picture or 2...

Cosmo is my black and white spotted Syrian hamster and such a character!
I adopted him from Petsmart.
Sometimes PM will take hamsters that no one wants or can care for anymore and sometimes those hamsters are pregnant, so they keep them in the back until they can be adopted for free.
I get most of the hamsters I have had this way. They only sell male animals at PM.
Honestly, I wish they did not sell animals at all, but at least they are only selling one sex.
So one of the sales associates brings out this aquarium just swarming with baby hamsters. And because of Cosmos' coloring I saw him first. I went to touch him and he started squealing and screeching. It was pitiful! And of course that just made me want him because he was sassy.
Cosmo has been with us for about a year and has not stopped his screeching, but is very tame. If you pet him, he screeches, if you feed him, he screeches. I think he likes to hear himself talk. Cosmo loves to be in his ball. We set him lose in it in the den at night so we can keep an eye on him, but he is so funny to watch. Hamsters can only see about 1" in front of them. They have very bad eye sight, so he runs into everything full throttle. The dog, our feet, the cat, the rabbit, the TV stand, bang! boom! MEOW!! It's a blast to watch him gets such treacherous exercise! He loves every minute of it.

Poppy has gotten very big and is doing very well. She has so much personality. She is so sassy ans so comical. She loves her rabbit friend Nevin and loves to be brushed. Weird for a Guinea pig. She is now 3 1/2 months old as of last Wednesday. Here she sits in her half eaten hay tunnel.

I built her a bigger playpen once Nevin decided he wasn't going to stay in it. He will jump back in for a bite of pellets or to use the littler box, play with Poppy but other wise, he likes free range of the den. You can see him in the background. He is the grey blob with the satanic eye!!
Poppy loves her pen and runs around like she is on a race track. She always runs through her tunnel each lap. Even if she has to zig-zag to get through it! Hay and bedding go everywhere!!
This enclosure is made from a piece of corrugated plastic (An old real estate sign that was given to me) and metal grids used for shelves. Zip ties do the trick and tape or staples hold the plastic together. It is easy to clean and so much more inexpensive then a cage. Plus you can get the plastic in any color and make the cage as big as you want as the plastic comes in sheets of 8' X 4'. You can get creative and do multiple levels and even put a roof on it. She sleeps in her apartment in the "animal room" at night right across from Nevin and next to Cosmo.

Corey Haim dies at 38

Sad news in Hollywood as another actors' life is taken by drugs.
Along with fellow actor River Phoenix who died in the early 90's from an accidental drug overdose. Haim who has battled drugs for years was set to make his come back this year.
He had a small role in Crank 2 and is known for Lucas, The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Dream a little dream and Silver Bullet.
He was noted as one of the Corey's with him and Corey Feldman in almost all of those movies.
Who didn't have his picture hanging in their room as a teenager? So sad and so tragic.

The Cove

I am happy to report that this powerful and enlightening film won and OSCAR last night for The Best Documentary category.

I had sent out an e-mail earlier in the winter about this film and if you have not yet seen it, you need to.
This is the reality of our world and in order to fight for it, we need to know the truth and what we are fighting for.
So , please, if you have not rented or bought it. Do so. It will change you forever.

Mostly Suprised!

Sam and I went to see this movie today in 3-D and it was so super fantastic!! Yes, I typed that! How fun!!! I really loved the March Hare. What a wacko!!!!
We really enjoyed it. It was typical Tim Burton, but dialed down just a notch so it wasn't creepy or weird. Just fun and so colorful. Seeing it in 3-D was the icing on the cake with this one. They put a spin on the story that was delightful and easy to follow. The characters were all very deep and you easily fell in love with them. Even the silly talking flowers. I think it's the British accent?
Dragon-flies, horse-flies it was way cool... around every corner was a colorful surprise
I want to see it again.
Not to be missed on the big screen. Young and old alike will enjoy it. Reminiscent of the old story, but with a fun twist.

We got some poor guy waiting by the bathroom to take a picture. I wish we could have fit the entire cardboard stand up in the picture.

The Black Stallion

Oh this movie.... I watched it on HDMV this morning and it has the same affect on me now as it did when I was little. I cry and sob.
I remember being 10 and watching this movie over and over and crying so hard that my dad told me I couldn't watch it ever again because it upset me so much.
It is such a beautiful film and the music is so moving. Cass Ole the horse that played "The Black" was magnificent. I had all the books and read them over and over. Lost in the world of horses.
I always wanted a black stallion of my own as did most girls and boys.
What I didn't count on was that instead of a black stallion, a beautiful, coy sorrel filly would come in to my life and change me forever. She was only 2 when she found me. I was the only person to ever ride her until she was an accomplished 10 year old mare who had carried me to many blue ribbons and on many adventures.
This movie was about one of the first horse whisperer's. He didn't want anything from this animal but friendship. And that is the 1st rule to all natural horsemanship. Spend a lot of free time with your horse.
I did that a lot with Nikki. My sorrel filly. Just spent evening's sitting on her back with no saddle or bridle watching the sun set while she ate grass in her pasture. I miss her. And would give almost anything to have her back. She gave me so much and I owe her even more.
Watching the Black Stallion seems to have a new meaning for me now. Loss, forgiveness, a journeys end. Maybe some day I will have another horse like her, probably not, but there is always that possibility.

Amber's Artwork

I want to advertise a bit for my very good friend Amber. She is a VERY talented artist whom I would love to see working for a comic company.

She can work with any medium and like I said before, is very talented....she created this portrait of me a few years ago. Everything in this drawing has meaning.
I especially love my little chicken "Alec" at my feet. Alec has since passed away, but he was a really neat little guy and is forever immortalized in this picture.

Damn this update!

Yes, ya, just in case you didn't hear. The release of Clash of the Titans has been moved up a week.
So it will be showing on April 2nd. : ( I KNOW!!
The up side of having to wait an extra week is that it will be available in 3-D! Which in my opinion, will be worth the squealers....everything is better in 3-D!!

Have I mentioned there is a magnificent black flying horse in the film???? They have a new teaser trailer to advertise the move date and there is a scene where Pegasus lands in front of Perseus and rears. It always takes my breath away. I have it DVR'd so I can watch it over and over...AH-HA!

We are all so looking forward to this movie....do you believe me?
XOXO

Fruity yummy-ness

OK!! I really did not have anything to blog about today, so I thought I would introduce this fantastic new animal treat that I have been feeding this winter.
They are called Fruitables and were originally made for dogs.
They have all natural ingredients with Pumpkin being the main one, I started feeding them to everyone and they were a hit!!
They are a bit bigger then a nickel, in the shape of flowers and I feed them to everyone. The Bunny, piggy, conure, dog, horses, everyone loves them and since they are made from all natural ingredients, I feel good aboout it. They are very crisp and baked, not fried or processed.
Junk food is never good for your pet and just about any dog treat or snack is junk food unless it has all natural ingredients or meat as the main (first) ingredient. (Not by products (fillers) or baked goods that are fattening.)
Fruitables come in 4 different flavors, all with pumpkin. There is Banana, Blueberry, Apple and Cranberry.
When you open the bag, take a big wiff. They smell like pumpkin muffins. Annnd you know we had to try one. They are a bit bland, but our taste buds are nothing like an animal. They were pretty tasty!
You can get them from most feed shops or through thier online site.

Nevin da bunner's

This morning I decided to let Nevin out of his playpen to wander around the den. He was cautious at first, but soon learned that he was safe and decided to start jumping in the air and racing around. It is so funny to see him throwing his head around and bucking like a horse.
Nevin will be 4 months old on the 10th. I will be making his snip-snip appoinment next month. X)
That way he will be a much happier bunners.

He would run to one end of his pen and then run as fast he could back to the other end, adding some high jumps in between.

He was in mid jump here. So funny. The inertia of his jump has his ears flopping around! He had so much fun, then was trying to get back in his enclosure for a nap.

OK! Do you know how hard it is to take pictures of something that never stops moving? Here you have Nevin's hiney! ENJOY!
At least it's cute and fluffy huh?
