Sam and I went to see this movie today and it was much better then I expected. The CGI was really fantastic, the story was old school and the Wolfman was like Teen Wolf on crack.
It was gory, scary and dark. It was filmed in a foggy, damp setting that gave you chills. Around every corner was something waiting to jump out and eat you. It was the first movie I have seen Sam cover his eyes watching since Jim Carey smiled as the Grinch!
Benicio Del Toro did a great job being creepy and Sir Anthony Hopkins lends his stiff, acting chops as the "Father".
It starts off slow, telling the story of "The Beast" that roamed the moors during the full moon, but soon picks up when Del Toro is bitten and no one believes he is a horrible man killer during the full moon. The best scene is when they torture him and then strap him to a chair, wheel him into a room full of moronic doctors and scholars and wait for him to "change" to prove he is crazy, taunting him because they think he is delusional, only to have him threaten to kill them all shortly. Which he does. It's a classic scene with guts, blood and lots of screaming! The monster transformation is really gut wrenching.
The Wolfman was a classic with the legendary creature actor Lon Chaney Jr, and shall stay a classic with this new adaptation on a fun, scary movie.
Great for Valentines day! ; )
